ICVolunteers’ GreenVoice Programme wins WSIS e-Environment Prize

18 jul - 28 aug 2011, Geneva (Switzerland)

The GreenVoice Programme includes a photography exhibition aiming to value our natural habitat and heritage through an artistic eye. The photos shown are part of a selection of images communicating perspectives from nearly 100 countries. GreenVoice also educates children about sustainability in hands-on exercises and excursions to La Voirie, the recycling and waste management center in Geneva.

The 4th GreenVoice exhibition was held on Lac Leman from July to August 2011. Under the theme “Sustainable Development, Sustainable Energy, Citizenship and Volunteerism”, GreenVoice leads viewers on a journey through five continents, from the Philippines to Colombia, through India, Lithuania and Mali. The exhibition engaged with volunteer photographers and reporters who provided their own perspectives about the environment, citizenship and volunteerism. Friends of Safe Planet contributed to the exhibition.

"Map and Sip"; Safe Planet at the Biennale, Venice

COP Stockholm

2-4 jun, 2011, Venice The first thing one experiences entering Venice, is water. From the Stazione di Venezia Santa Lucia, the main train staion, it’s a 20 step walk to the Grand Canal, which runs like a snake through the island. Barbara Benish´s artist intervention, “Map and Sip”, which put nearly 1000 placemats with an image of the ocean’s gyres in dozens of cafes and restaurants around Venezia, called attention to those very waters now dying from pollution.

Substantialis Corporis Mixti (Substantial Form of the Blended Body)

Substantialis Corporis Mixti

7-14 may 2010, Czech center, New York

The synergies exhibition of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions takes its name from a medieval chemistry essay by Thomas Aquinas. It asks us to consider how the introduction of imperceptibly small elements into corporeal bodies might change the nature of those bodies. Safe Planet Campaign updated this question by asking 10 artists from 5 countries to reflect on the increasingly heavy burden chemicals and wastes place on the human body, as well as the bodies of other animals. The artists present works which we hope speak to a global audience eager to take responsibility for hazardous chemicals and wastes.
More information about the exhibit and the list of contributing artists find under past events.

The exhibition of the Safe Planet Campaign was featured at the Czech Center New York during the 18th session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development, 3-14 May 2010
